Currie, David Vivian (1912-1986). Born in Sutherland, Saskatchewan, Currie joined the Militia in 1919 and enlisted in the regular forces in 1940. In August 1942, Currie was sent overseas with the 29th Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment. On the morning of August 18, 1944, under Currie's command, his squadron attacked the village of St. Lambert-sur-Dives, France. During the next few days, Nazi troops continued to launch counter attacks. On August 20th, Currie completed the capture of the village. 300 Germans were killed, 500 were wounded and 2,100 were captured. |
