Hendry, JamesGeorge Cross Recipient |
Hendry, James (1911-1941). Born in Falkirk, Scotland, Hendry was serving with the No. 1 Tunnelling Company, Royal Canadian Engineers, at the time of his death. While constructing a tunnel in Scotland, Hendry noticed a fire at the powder house. Shouting a warning and picking up a pail of water, Hendry proceeded to fight the flames. His attempt failed; the magazine exploded and Hendry was killed, but other lives were saved by his warning. |
