Topham, Frederick George (1917-1974). Corporal Topham, a medical orderly serving with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, was born in Toronto in 1917. During the Rhine crossings on March 24th, 1945, two orderlies were killed as they tried to rescue a wounded soldier. Topham, after witnessing the entire incident, ran out to the open field. Topham rescued the soldier and was himself shot through the nose. Refusing medical assistance for his own wounds, Topham next rescued three men from a burning carrier. |
