Oven:
This is the single most
important piece of equipment to the blacksmith. It is the oven. Inside the oven is where
the blacksmith would heat his metal. The fire would be kept at about 1500 degrees Celsius
and it would have been fueled by bituminous soft coal. The oven may not have had a huge
blazing fire, but that is not what was needed. What was needed was the incredibly hot
coals the fire would produce. This is where the blacksmith could lay his metal to be
heated. A bellow would have been used to keep the fire hot at all times. This oven has
been modified with an electric blower to feed oxygen to the fire. |
