ACTIVITY 2: Autobiography: Your Own Story

Every student has a life story to tell. This activity will allow them to discover that their own culture plays an important role in their lives.

Give them time to brainstorm and write their own autobiography using the guidelines below.

YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY

This is your chance to tell your own life story. It should reflect your cultural heritage. Things you should include in your autobiography are:

  • The date and place of your birth
  • Your parents' names and where they are from
  • Your family
  • Significant events that have affected your life
  • Your activities
  • Any customs or holidays your family observes
  • Any other places you have lived
  • A poem you have written, or one that is special to you
  • An important moment that changed your life

These are just suggestions; some students may wish to describe a single event that they feel describes them deeply. Encourage them to include pictures or photos. When complete, the autobiography must be bound with a cover that should be decorated to reflect the student's culture(s) of heritage.
