INTRODUCTION

Ask students if they remember the Quebec referendum of 1995. Lead a discussion about the importance of language to keeping a cultural identity. You may wish to have a formal or informal debate about the benefit of Canada's policy of bilingualism and of encouraging immigrants to keep their language (as opposed to the U.S. "melting pot")
