Restoration on the Fletcher Store began in 1984, simultaneously when the University of British Columbia architectural students were doing the field drawings for the measured drawing of the store. When the UBC students arrived to begin sketching, the restoration project was well under way. The architect had been chosen and the proposal approved.
The store had been closed for almost 10 years prior to the restoration proposal. Parks Tours initiated the project, hoping to use the building as a tourist attraction and as a museum. Today it stands as a tribute to the pioneer Henry Giegerich and the Fletcher family. |
