Henry T. Ceperley Henry Tracy Ceperly was a born in Oneonta, New York and moved to Vancouver, B.C. in the 1880's (Winifred Denny. The Story of A House: Ceperley Mansion to Burnaby Art Gallery. Chapter II.) He went into a real estate and insurance partnership to form the Ceperley, Rounsefell, and Company, Ltd.
Grace Dixon In 1891, he was commissioned to appraise land near Deer Lake Creek for John Balfour Key. When Ceperley arrived there, by train, he was embraced by wilderness - a wooden slope and a forested area. Falling in love with the area, Ceperley wanted to purchase the land to build a home; however, his dream ended within a year due to the death of his wife in 1892. It was only after his retirement was he able to look back to the quiet lake in Burnaby. Eighteen years after his initial visit, Ceperley was able to purchase the land and build a house for him and his second wife, Grace Dixon.
