What is the C.E.D. Program? In short, CANDO's C.E.D. Program can provide you with the training and skills you need to enter the field of Aboriginal Economic Development.
Since it was first founded by fifty Aboriginal Economic Development Officers (EDOs) in 1990, CANDO's central mandate has been the education and training of EDOs. CANDO's ultimate goal of encouraging economic development in Aboriginal communities will be accomplished largely through this ambitious initiative. In 1993, the CANDO National Task Force on Education and Training Needs designed and conducted a national telephone survey of 165 EDOs from across Canada. Eighty-four percent of the respondents reported that a special training program would be valuable. According to the responding EDOs, such a program is needed to ensure that individuals who work in the critical area of economic development in Aboriginal communities have a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and experience. As a result of this survey, CANDO developed the Certified Economic Developer (C.E.D.) Certification Program. The curriculum was developed by economic development officers and educators. Generally the program incorporates a combination of Business/Accounting/Economic Development courses with Aboriginal community and politics courses. It takes about two years of full-time post-secondary education to earn technician level C.E.D. Questions? Check out faqs for some answers |
