celebratory bowl

Exhibition #4

Some of the earliest art which has been passed down to us from our ancestors are vessel forms in clay and glass. Important among these is the bowl, an extension of the outstretched hand. Bowls have been made over the centuries to celebrate personal passages and family events, and to acknowledge major triumphs. Bowls are life sustaining and have been used for ritual and spiritual sustenance.

Artists across Canada were invited to participate in the official opening of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery by creating their own special Celebratory Bowl or sending a bowl from their regular production. In this way, an important link was established across Canada, forming a network amongst the artists for whom this Gallery has been created.
