Exhibition
#12
The history of clay and glass began with the need to make containers
for food, personal wealth, ritual objects and human remains. The
contemporary artists who were invited to exhibit in this exhibition
were chosen either for the expressive stretch which they are known
to give to their materials or for the manner in which the interior
space informs their exterior forms.
Some have widened this to include ideas about metaphysical and conceptual
containment. Whether functional or sculptual, closed or open, the
outward push of an enveloping clay or glass wall holds the promise
of containment. |
