In 1911 the building of the roundhouse began.
It was finished in 1912. The roundhouse was first built with five
stalls. In the fall of 1912 five more stalls were added because
more room was needed.
The
roundhouse housed steam locomotives. During the 48 years of service,
the railway switched from using the 1000 series engines with 4-wheel
drive to the 2800 series engines with 8-wheel drive.
When the roundhouse shut down the stalls were
leased. In 1953 McCabe Grain Co. leased half of the main part
of the building. They used these stalls for the storage of 70,000
bushels of wheat. Three years later they leased some more space
for an additional 20,000 more bushels of grain storage. In 1959
they leased the remaining 5 stalls for approximately 80,000 more
bushels of wheat. The roundhouse was leased one last time in 1959.
