John F. And Madelaine had 4 children: 3 sons - Leonard, Patrick and Lawrence Cote and 1 daughter - Margaret Cote-Lerat.

John F. and Madelaine were married on January 15, 1933. They were married for 62 years when Madelaine passed away. From the 4 children they had 28 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

John F. worked as a farmer most of his life. In the wintertime he was a trapper and worked in lumber camps. Madelaine was a homemaker. She also did a lot of sewing and beadwork. John F. used to hand craft cradleboards and drums. Madelaine sewed and beaded the cradleboard wraps.

John F. was an excellent storyteller, his daughter Margaret has recorded and written many of his stories. Margaret is employed at the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College as an Assistant Professor in the Indian Languages Department.

John F. also served as a Spiritual Elder at many ceremonies such as Sundances, council dances and round dances.

Nenapohs and the Owl : A Legend told to teach something about nature, "Why the owl can turn his head all the way around." Also told to teach morals and values, "it's not nice to be agressive and look for trouble."
