Early Island Roads

Postcard: Road to Hunter River, Prince Edward Island.Imagine the early 1900's when there were no paved highways, cars, or snowplows to remove now in the winter time. What would transportation have been like? The early dirt roads of the Island limited travel. In the spring and winter time of the year due to mud and snow, the dirt roads of the Island were impossible to travel on. The means of travel was either by foot or horse and wagon, as the automobile would not be a welcomed site on the Island until 1920. Until the Island roads were improved with pavement and the introduction of the automobile, traveling was quite an adventure.
