Lebanese Association of P.E.I.

Canadian Lebanese Association of PEI logoA second wave of Lebanese immigrants arrived on Prince Edward Island. After the 1975 Lebanese civil war there was concern about young people losing their Lebanese culture and heritage. The old and new Lebanese community united to form an association where they could get together to celebrate their heritage, and others wanted to make sure their children understood and appreciated their heritage, and others wanted to share their culture with the rest of the community. This group worked hard to preserve their Lebanese heritage even without a hall to meet in or an office to run their operations. Today the various Lebanese-owned resturants, corner stores and other businesses have helped make their culture an important part of Island life. Even many non-Lebanese attend the annual Lebanese New Year's Levee.
