Television on P.E.I.

Kids watching televisionAn invention which radically changed the world was a rudimentary invention spurned out of American inventors of the 1920’s. It would not be until the 1950’s before the television would become a norm in households across North America. The modern television was introduced to the world following World War Two. In Canada, those people who lived close to American signals could pick up stations from there. In 1952 the government, concerned over the lack of Canadian content, launched CBC Television to display Canadian programs. By the mid 1950’s most Canadians were able to watch television. On Prince Edward Island television was a bit later coming especially to rural areas, which didn’t have TV sets until the late 50’s. Those Islanders who could afford a television in the early 50’s often became a hang out for those who did not have this luxury. The 1960’s saw the evolution of color television.
