Fernie's Multiculturalism

While Coal Creek had become a mostly British town by the 1920’s, Fernie had become a community of many different nationalities. Most immigrants had come here from Britain and both eastern and western European countries. Mary Menduk is a Fernie citizen whose parents were both Czechoslovakian immigrants. We can learn from her what it was like to come from a non-English-speaking background.
