The CPR had a station in Fernie as well as a railroad yard for switching trains and storing cars. The CPR station was quite elegant and is still in use today as The Fernie Arts Station. The CPR yards were located across from the current site of the station. Here the CPR interchanged with the MF&M as well as the GNR.

The GNR’s line ran through Fernie where Highway 3 runs today. Its station was quite modest compared to the CPR’s, as the GNR didn’t have the benefit of government subsidies and land grants. The GNR had a few storage tracks in Fernie but not a full yard like the CPR.
