An Important Site

The fossil material from Diligent River will be a major addition to the Nova Scotia Museum's collection.

Special Places signThis marvelous fossil site contains a wealth of palaeontological information. In addition to the study of amphibian trackways and ancient ecosystems, Diligent River may provide valuable information for establishing a connection between the Parrsboro Formation and the Boss Point Formation through further stratigraphic investigations. These investigations will be crucial in the interpretation of the site and in determining its scientific importance.

Final Note

The shore of the Bay of Fundy near Diligent River is the site of extremely important fossil remains. Please remember that these fossils have great scientific value and it is important that they remain undisturbed and available to scientists for study. It is against the law to remove or disturb fossils imbedded in cliffs without a Heritage Research Permit. The Nova Scotia Museum is currently revamping its permit system to account for collecting loose fossils on the beach. Loose fossils may be collected in the interim, though they remain the property of the Province of Nova Scotia.
