A Final Note

Special Places SignThe fossil cliffs of Joggins are a popular and important tourist spot. They are also the site of extremely important and fragile palaeontological deposits. Please remember that they have been designated a Special Place under the Province of Nova Scotia's Special Places Protection Act. It is illegal to extract fossils from the cliff without a Heritage Research Permit. The Nova Scotia Museum is currently revamping its permit system to account for collecting loose fossils on the beach. They may be collected in the interim, though the fossils remain the property of the Province of Nova Scotia.

Guided tours of the area are available. Please call the Joggins Fossil Centre at (902)251-2727.
