Traditionally, tribes survived only by hunting. A good hunter was always held in high esteem by the people, as he provided food, dress and other necessities for the camp.
Hunting skills were developed at an early age, largely through games. Target games, such as Shooting Arrows, developed accuracy in the use of the bow and arrow. As one became more proficient, he could compete in the more difficult games such as the Hoop and Pole Game, described later.
Many of the target games, such as Sliding and Snowsnake, served more as social pastimes. These games were played by all ages of both sexes.
