A U.S. Air Force plane from Stephenville crashed on the ice in Rocky Harbour in the winter of 1946. Men and equipment such as "the duck" came and dismantled it. The parts were taken back to the U.S. base at Stephenville. This was the first time many of the people had seen a plane.
