Pizza Delight Corporation Ltd.

Back in 1967, fresh out of the University of Moncton, Bernard Imbeault and a classmate bought out two humble pizza stands—one in Moncton and one in Shediac, New Brunswick. Since then, Pizza Delight has done nothing but grow, and is now the largest chain in Canada, with approximately 200 outlets.

As a result, a very special pizza has been pleasing the consumer's palate across Canada for almost 20 years.

Product consistency has always been a top priority to Pizza Delight. Having developed a winning sauce recipe, its use has been important to assure system uniformity. Since the recipe is kept secret even from the franchisees, the sauce is made for them in the company's plant. A distribution company, owned by Pizza Delight, and many of the franchisees, has aided in simplifying matters for the franchisees. They can purchase their food supplies, including pizza sauce and other specialty mixes, which are made at the plant, as well as paper products, also manufactured in the Maritimes. These products are shipped to distribution points in Eastern and Western Canada and to the United States.

Operating from the Moncton headquarters, the company has seen many business moves which have led to the expansion of its business base. In 1977, Pizza Delight bought out Pizza Patio Management Ltd., a Vancouver-based firm with outlets in Western Canada and Japan.

From the outset, both Pizza Delight and Pizza Patio had a single goal: to establish a franchise system for a quality pizza, a product that would not only meet the discriminating tastes of the consumer but would be marketable in a rising fast food industry. Both establishments responded to the criteria and as time and expansion progressed, so did their facilities. What had begun for its originators as a take-out concept soon developed into a familystyle restaurant with greater menu selection.

By 1979, the company's Ontario assets and certain development rights had been purchased by Robin Hood Multifoods Inc., one of the nation's largest food companies. In the years that followed, this corporate giant successfully expanded the Pizza Delight concept in Ontario. In 1987, Pizza Delight Corporation Ltd. reacquired the area license and related business assets from Robin Hood Multifoods Inc., thereby confirming its position as a major player in the Canadian foodservice industry. Now approaching its 20th year anniversary as a pizza chain, Bernard Imbeault, the company's founder and president, attributes their success to the entrepreneurial spirit of the franchisees. "We began with a handful of franchisees here in New Brunswick. It's due to their talent and the success of their individual operations that we have been able to propel the development of our system across Canada".
