Canada's leading luxury motorhome manufacturer, Triple E Canada Ltd., is a success story with remarkably humble beginnings. It was 1964 when P.W. Enns became intrigued with innovations in the travel-trailer industry. Purchasing a torsion model travel trailer axle, he began construction of his first travel trailer in Winkler, Manitoba. With sons-in-law, Phil Ens and Peter Elias, Peter Enns expanded an existing plumbing and heating shop and by 1966 a major force in the Canadian RV IndustryTriple E Manufacturing Incorporatedwas introduced to the public.
The Regency C-795, Regency A-924 and Signature A-1053 are three motor home models that have contributed to Triple E's success as Canada's largest manufacturers of motorhomes. |
Triple E produced 97 units of the 13-foot Triple E compact in its first year. Demand became dramatic when Westerners were making plans to visit Expo 67 in Montreal. The 35-man production line manufactured 300 trailers for the 1967 year in time for The World's Fair. Enns next turned his attention to motorhome design, modifying the steering device on a GM milk van chassis to suit his company's needs, using this modification even to this day.
Learning of this innovation, General Motors
dispatched engineers to study the design refinements and ever since have
incorporated these changes in all GM Class A chassis production. The company
was re-incorporated in 1974 as Triple E Canada Limited. By 1979, a major
dealer network was established when the Empress motorhome line was purchased.
That year also saw the birth of Triple E's Van Conversion Division in Guelph,
Ontario. Soon after, Triple E launched Alma Homes in Lethbridge, Alberta.
The plant, which produces Dutch Villa Mobile Homes, since renamed Triple
E Homes Limited, has produced more than 1,000 homes since 1981 and, today,
employs more than 100 people.

Phil Ens, President, comments on Triple E's success: "Our people have a strong Mennonite work ethic and are undaunted by hardships and difficulties. Their perseverance was.... essential during the difficulties our industry experienced during the 1970s and early 1980s. "Teamwork and the concern each member of our team has for each other and our valued customers is what gives Triple E Canada the stability and the success to remain a leader in the industry." Triple E continues to diversify its operation, purchasing Lode King Industries, manufacturers of hopper-bottom grain bins and other related equipment. Triple E also has spanned the gap between manufacturing and merchandising by setting up a local RV dealership, Sun Valley RV.
Now one of the largest employers in the Pembina Valley region of Southern Manitoba, with almost 400 employees, Triple E anticipates expanding its Manitoba work force in the late 1980s, as its Travel Van operation in Guelph, Ontario is transferred to Winkler.
From the three-man beginning in the mid-sixties to a multi-million dollar operation today, Triple E has remained dedicated to the task of producing high quality vehicles and equipment, providing steady employment for more than 500 people while improving life in Alberta and Southern Manitoba.
