Construction
of the Dome Mine in the Porcupine region, some 90 miles north of Cobalt,
began shortly after a mineral vein some twenty feet thick—a gold bonanza—was
found under a thick layer of moss; |

The Hollinger
Mine came into existence after large veins of gold, literally bulging out
from the ground, were discovered by Benny Hollinger in 1909. This view
is of the mine site before the great fire; |

Another prospector,
Sandy McIntyre, discovered gold in the same area. The McIntyre Gold Mine,
illustrated here circa 1912, together with the Dome and Hollinger Gold
Mines, made the Timmins area one of the most productive gold mining centres
in North America (1-3/C.J.Humber Collection) |
