KELLOGG CANADA LTD.

The Kellogg story, like that of many successful companies, started with a modest, yet innovative idea. The founder of the Kellogg Company, Will Keith Kellogg, believed that people needed a wholesome, tasty change from their limited, fat-laden breakfast diet. This theory led to Kellogg’s founding of the ready-to-eat cereal industry that contributed to a more healthy and convenient North American lifestyle.

In 1880, Will Keith Kellogg along with his brother Dr. John Henry Kellogg began experiments with cereal foods in Battle Creek, Michigan. Dr. Kellogg was director of the Battle Creek Sanatorium, a health centre.

Sixteen years later, in 1896, the first successful flaked cereal was produced. The Kelloggs called it Granose. Two years later Will Kellogg started experimenting with whole kernel corn and introduced a worldwide winner, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes. To manufacture and market the product, he formed the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906. By 1914 the company had expanded to Canada: The Kellogg Company of Canada Limited opened its first cereal plant in Toronto. In 1924 cereal production facilities were moved to the current site in London, Ontario. Kellogg’s head office is now in Etobicoke, Ontario.

The London plant uses the most modern cereal manufacturing technology in North America. A $300 million ultramodern addition to the plant was completed in 1986. Such substantial investment in both state-of-the-art technology and training has allowed Kellogg’s to produce high quality nutritious cereals at the lowest possible cost to consumers.

Kellogg’s continues to produce and market an ever-growing list of grain-based products to meet a wide variety of consumer tastes, including:
