Xerox Canada

For almost four decades Xerox has been committed to Canada. Founded in this country in 1953, Xerox employs more than 5,000 people in offices in every region of Canada.

The heart of Xerox Canada Ltd. is its 24-storey corporate headquarters in North York, Ontario. There the company connects to a national network of sales, service, research and manufacturing facilities across Canada.

The Xerox business philosophy, Leadership Through Quality, is uncompromising: to achieve the ultimate in customer satisfaction. The aim of every Xerox employee, every day, is to give customers what they need, when they need it; to have customers think of Xerox as a partner in their business; and to be easy to do business with.

Indicative of the success of the Leadership Through Quality process is the Gold Award For Quality, presented to Xerox in November, 1989, the first ever conferred in the federally sponsored Canada Awards For Business Excellence.

In the ‘70s the company enhanced its com- mitment to Canada with the introduction of its Canadian Value Added program, established in partnership with the government of Canada, to export Canadian expertise worldwide.

Under this program, the Xerox equipment manufacturing centre in Mississauga, Ontario, employing over 400 people, has a world product mandate for copier handling devices. In addition, the Xerox Research Centre of Canada in the Sheridan Park Research Community, Mississauga, home to over 118 scientists and technologists, holds a world mandate for original and long-range scientific investigation of advanced materials that affect the reprographic process. And early in 1991 Xerox opened a state-of- the-art consumables plant in Oakville, Ontario, to manufacture toner and developers for future reprographic products for worldwide distribution.

Xerox,“The Document Company,” markets office technology, equipment, and services that facilitate the creation, reproduction, distribution and storage of documents. Its products range from multifunctional machines such as the DocuTech digital document publisher and the 3010 Digital Copier/Fax utilizing laser imaging—to xerographic copiers and duplicators, facsimile products, electronic printers, professional workstations, industry-standard networks and related products.

The Xerox focus on providing both business solutions and leadership after-sales support has enabled the company to achieve above-average growth in revenues and profits, healthy return on equity and increased market share.

Annual revenues of $1.1 billion in 1990, according to president and chief executive officer Richard S. Barton, reflect the abilities of Xerox employees, the excellence of products and services and the impact of customer satisfaction strategies.

The company believes a key element in the success of Leadership Through Quality is its workforce. Xerox treats its employees like its customers and is dedicated to providing the training and tools its employees require to meet their professional goals.

Xerox supports the communities in which it does business. The key element in the company’s community involvement is financial assistance to those organizations in which Xerox employees or their families are involved. This encourages employees to volunteer their time and talents to their communities. Xerox has supported hundreds of local organizations and initiatives including care for the disabled, volunteer fire departments, special children’s camps, Big Brothers, Girl Guides, ski and swim clubs.

Xerox contributes to all United Way campaigns and Junior Achievement Organizations as well as encouraging employee support. Partnerships have been formed with Canadian universities coast to coast through its University Support Program; the company is also involved at the secondary school level.

Xerox is proud to support the goal set by the Canadian Centre For Philanthropy IMAGINE program to donate a minimum of one percent of average domestic pre-tax profits.

For almost 40 years Xerox has been a Canadian corporate leader whose products and services are an integral part of thousands of business transactions daily. The company is committed to continuing to earn, every day, the confidence of Canadian business.

The global marketplace of the future presents demanding but exciting challenges as well as boundless opportunities and Xerox commits itself to being at the vanguard of excellence as Canada travels the ’90s toward its place in the new millennium.
