Ashland Chemical Canada Ltd.

Ashland Chemical is a specialty chemical company which manufactures and markets chemicals for Canadian industry and global export. Manufacturing and distribution facilities are located in Mississauga, Ontario, and Boucherville, Quebec.

Early operations date to the 1930s, through a chemical manufacturing plant originally built for processing vegetable oils, and a chemical and solvent distribution facility, both located in Toronto. These were replaced in 1975 with a modern chemical complex now located on a 34-acre site in Mississauga, Ontario. The manufac-turing operation produces a wide variety of polymers, resins, and chemicals to serve ever-increasing national and worldwide markets. Ashland Chemical produces alkyd and latex resins for paint and coatings customers, polyester resin for fabricated plastics manufacturers, and sand binding polymers and chemicals for foundries.

The Ashland Chemical plant is situated in Mississauga, Ontario.

Ashland’s distribution divisions consist of several facilities including blending and bulk storage complexes _ opened in 1981 in Mississauga and, in 1983, in Boucherville _ supplying customers with industrial chemicals and solvents. In 1988, specialty chemicals for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries were added and the General Polymer division also began distributing thermoplastic resins. Both these groups serve customers through separate distribution facilities in Mississauga and Boucherville.

Local research and development capabilities enable Ashland to develop products for specific Canadian customer needs through access to worldwide technology from associated companies.

Quality and consistency of product performance are the outstanding features of Ashland’s reliable products, earning the company numerous product quality accreditations since the early 1980s. Today, continuous improvement has become the driving force behind Quality Plus, Ashland’s commitment to quality and productivity. ISO-9002 certification for Ashland’s manufacturing facilities ensures worldwide recognition of the company’s quality standards.

Ashland’s concern for environmental issues is reflected in commitment to the industry’s Responsible Care process. A modern incinerator eliminates odours and the need to transport hazardous waste through the community. It also provides energy from waste to power the plant, decreasing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Emergency preparedness is part of Ashland’s product stewardship responsibility. Waste reduction achievements have won community recognition through the Region of Peel’s Waste Reduction Award.

A safe operation is essential for the well-being of Ashland’s employees and part of the Total Quality Management process. Ashland’s manufacturing facility has achieved 12 years without lost time injury, a truly world-class performance.

People are the key to Ashland’s success. It is an organization of approximately 140 employees with a common goal of pursuing excellence in product and service to all inside and outside customers. Innovation is an essential part of the company’s culture, technology, and products. Computers are a normal tool used by every employee.
