Royal Doulton Canada Limited is the largest importer and distributor of giftware and tableware in Canada. Established in 1956 with a staff of 13, the company has expanded to an eight-acre site in Scarborough, Ontario, with 275 employees. There, product development, marketing, sales, administration, and distribution work together as a team to serve a coast-to-coast network of domestic and hotelware representatives.

Royal Doulton Canada Limited is a subsidiary of Royal Doulton plc in Stoke-on-Trent, England, which encompasses the famous ceramic brand names, Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, Minton, Royal Crown Derby, and Beswick which together total more than 1,000 years of history and tradition.

Canada is the most significant export market for Royal Doulton products per capita. These products enjoy the most popularity in Canada second only to the United Kingdom itself. To provide the best service to customers, Royal Doulton Canada Limited operates showroom facilities in Montreal and Vancouver and has a national sales staff of Domestic and Hotelware representatives. In addition, numerous retail stores operate under the name “The Royal Doulton Store” in major centres across Canada.

Royal Doulton Canada Limited’s mission statement reads, in part, “through our marriage of artistry and craftsmanship, Royal Doulton offers the finest china and crystal in the world.” Although Royal Doulton Canada Limited takes pride in the level of respect which its famous brand names have earned, the company is committed to continuously improving its products and service to exceed customers’ expectations. The company’s leadership role in this industry is a result of marketing efforts to the bridal consumer, first-class merchandising support to each authorized dealer, response to the information technology requirements of customers, and a dedication to excellence through people and products.

Employees are proud to work for Royal Doulton Canada Limited in an environment that encourages innovative contributions to improving service. The company is committed to the community and environment and has implemented the use of new packaging loosefil which is both recyclable and biodegradable. Corporate financial support and product donations are extended to numerous national and regional charitable and arts organizations. In 1988 Royal Doulton was especially proud to honour the tenth anniversary of Terry Fox’s run in support of cancer research by producing a character jug of his likeness in a limited edition of three. One of the jugs was auctioned for $32,000 with all proceeds going to Canadian cancer research.

In1988, Royal Doulton proudly acknowledged the accomplishments of Terry Fox with the production of a limited edition character jug. Pictured in the studio in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Betty Fox discusses the clay model with modeller Bill Harper.

The imagery of Canada has been commemorated in numerous ways through Royal Doulton products. The founding of Quebec in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain; the formation of the Dominion of Canada in 1867; landmarks such as Lake Louise and Niagara Falls; indigenous wildlife; the centenary of The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and even the maple tree have all been depicted on Royal Doulton wares. Many of these subjects are sought after by enthusiastic and patriotic Canadian collectors who scour antique markets and auctions to add to their collections.

Royal Doulton Canada Limited is proud to play a part in Canadian history and remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for loyal Canadian customers.
