Home Hardware Stores Limited
Bringing a World of Products to Canadians

Home Hardware Stores Limited is a Dealer-owned company, controlled and operated by independent hardware, building supply, and furniture Dealers across Canada.

The company was founded in 1964 by Walter Hachborn, Henry Sittler and a small group of independent hardware retailers who wished to serve their communities and compete successfully with large chain organizations. Their aim was to puchase products for less, eliminate the middleman’s profits and develop an equity in the company in relationship to their purchases. By banding together and working collectively toward the common cause, they have achieved their goal of preserving the independent Dealer.

There are about 1,000 stores. They are located in every province and territory of Canada. Annual retail sales exceed 1.25 billion dollars and Dealers are served from four major distribution centres. The Home Office is located at one of these, in the village of St. Jacobs, Ontario, just north of the city of Waterloo. Home is conscious of its responsibility as a corporate citizen and supports community and national interests by offering stable employment and opportunities for staff development and advancement. It is Canadian in its objectives and supports Canadian industry wherever possible, thereby creating employment and strength in the Canadian economy.  Home Hardware’s mission as a completely Dealer-owned company is to supply quality products and services and offer programs to operate efficient stores, which will provide the consumer with competitive prices and superior service. The company has one of the largest and most modern paint and chemical manufacturing plants in Canada. Its Beauti-Tone paint products consistently rank among the top quality brands in the country and are sold in all Home Hardware locations.

1. "...part of the Canadian scene"     2. Dealers on Parade

Home Dealers have the advantage of controlling their own destiny. The company is owned by the Dealers it serves and is controlled by a Board of Directors elected from among the Dealers and representing every region of Canada. Among the management and staff are skills in every field: buyers, marketers, merchandisers, operational specialists, financial and accounting professionals.

Home Hardware’s program begins with consistent, low-cost distribution. Merchandise cost is among the lowest in the industry because of the systems and volumes purchased by the company. This purchasing power has become worldwide through the company’s affiliation with Le group Ro-Na Inc. operating in the province of Quebec, HWI of the United States and Interlink International Inc., which is an organization of 18 dealer-owned member companies located throughout North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

A Canadian corporate achiever, Home Hardware truly brings a world of products and services to Canadians of all walks of life in cities and towns from sea unto sea. The big yellow trucks and distinctive HH logo are a friendly part of the Canadian scene.
