Company of California. Three years later, it opened a repair and overhaul
facility in Toronto to deal with the increasing level of business and Garrett's
commitment to provide responsive and meaningful support of its products

The limited manufacture of avionics was initiated in 1956, and in 1960, Garrett Canada, as it was then known, obtained the contract to build the central air data computer for the CF-104 aircraft. After creating the technology base and capability to manufacture and test highly sophisticated electronic systems, the company acquired the World Product Mandate for the complete electronic temperature control systems product line. Since this transfer, these and many other products have been designed, developed, and manufactured exclusively in Canada and sold worldwide as major aircraft subsystems.
In 1989, Garrett Canada combined with Bendix Avelex to establish AlliedSignal Aerospace Canada. Bendix Aviation was first begun in Montreal in 1931 as Aviation Electric Limited. Growing into a worldclass supplier of high-technology defence electronics, aerospace products and services, in 1985 it became Bendix Avelex Inc.
