Born in Talcahuano, a fishing port in Southern Chile, Hernán Humana attended the University of Chile in Santiago where he earned a degree in Physical Education and was an honoured volleyball player with the Chilean national team. Coming to Canada in 1980, Hernán began coaching volleyball and eventually earned his Master’s Degree at York University, Toronto. Voted the best volleyball player in Chile prior to his coming to Canada, this celebrated York University coach was voted Ontario University Association Coach of the Year, 1997 and 1998, and was one of Canada’s coaches of the Men’s Indoor Volleyball Team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and was coach, as viewed here, right, of the Men’s Beach Volleyball Team which won a Bronze Medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
