Ezzat Fares Abd-Elmessih
was born in Elbaliana, Egypt, and is an older brother of Rifaat Fares.
After attending the University of Alexandria, Egypt, where he graduated
in Medicine (M.B.Ch.B.), 1961, he continued in Medicine, receiving a Diploma
in General Surgery. Immigrating to Canada, 1968, he worked in the Surgical
Department, Santa Caprini Hospital, Montreal, Quebec, before moving to
Regina in 1969 to intern at the Regina Grey Nuns’ Hospital. He was appointed
Senior Resident, Surgery, Regina General Hospital, 1970. Since 1971, Dr.
Abd-Elmessih has practiced in Saskatchewan as a Family Physician. Active
in professional associations, Dr. Abd-Elmessih has served on the executive
of the Regina & District Medical Society, elected president, 1992.
He served as executive member, Vice President, 1996-97, and President,
1997-1999, Regina Health District Medical Staff Association. Dr. Abd-Elmessih
served as Medical Health Officer for the R.C.M.P. Training Academy, 1990-1992,
and remains an honorary member of the South Saskatchewan Officers Mess.
Dr. Abd-Elmessih is active in his community having served on the Albert
Park Community Association as Soccer Coordinator and coach. He is also
a Life-member of the Regina Maple Leaf Lions Club, a volunteer with Scouts
Canada, and High School Athletics as team doctor for Luther Lions Football
team. Married for 25 years to his wife, Pat, Dr. Abd-Elmessih has two children,
Samir and Esther, both at university. He is a founding member of St. Mark
