Marcus Aregawi graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Civil Engineering, from Haile Selassie University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he was born. Before immigrating to Canada, 1972, Marcus first worked as a resident engineer in the Prime Minister's Office, Addis Ababa, moving to Germany, 1971, where he was engaged in the final designs for expressways (Autobahn), including many of its interchanges. By 1974 he had graduated in structural engineering, (M.A.Sc.), University of Toronto, at which time his career as a structural, design and consultant engineer took off. With Carruthers and Wallace, as project engineer, he was responsible for the design of many high profile buildings including Toronto's Eaton Centre; GM Plant, Oshawa; Dalhousie Sport Complex, Halifax; and Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall. With Quinn Dressel Associates, Marcus was responsible for the design of the Royal Bank Office Tower, Toronto; the Canada Centre, Alberta; All state Head Office, Markham; and part of the 68-storey Scotia Plaza complex, Toronto. In 1985, he joined Alex Tobias Associates and was responsible for the design of Palace Pier II, a 50-storey residential complex in Toronto. He also was responsible for the design of three 30-storey luxury towers in Toronto called the Palisades. Marcus Aregawi, many times an award-winning structural and design engineer, has been a building engineer with the City of Toronto since 1987.
