In
the Shadow of Dinosaurs
Like many others who have
immigrated to Canada, Hans-Dieter Sues came as an exchange student to take
post-graduate work after completing undergraduate studies, in this case,
Johannes Gutenberg University, 1975. Born in Rheydt, Germany, the 19-year-old
graduate added an M. Sc., University of Alberta, 1977, then moved to Harvard,
completing a second Master's program, 1978, and Ph.D., 1984. He worked
and carried out post-doctoral studies in Canada and the United States for
the next eight years before being appointed, 1992, Associate Curator, Vertebrate
Palaeontology, Royal Ontario Museum, and Assistant Professor of Zoology,
University of Toronto. Made Associate Professor two years later, he was
appointed Curator, Vertebrate Palaeontology, ROM, 1996. Author of more
than 50 articles and book chapters, and co-editor of two books, Terrestrial
Ecosystems Through Time, 1992, and In the Shadow of the Dinosaurs, 1994,
Dr. Sues also serves as associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Earth
