Aerospace
Executive Promotes Canada
Basile Papaevangelou, right,
born Eleftheroupolis, Kavala, Greece, came to Canada with his parents at
age two, landing at Pier 21, Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1953. Because of the
large Greek community living in Montreal, the Papaevangelou family settled
in Quebec’s largest city where young Basile received all of his schooling,
graduating, B.Eng., McGill University, 1973, and earning his M.B.A. from
that same institution, 1982. Former President, Allied Signal Aerospace
Canada, Basile, in this mid-1990s photograph, taken at the Paris Air Show,
chats with James A. Lovell Jr. who commanded the unsuccessful Apollo 13
Moon Mission (1970) and returned the spacecraft to Earth following a potentially
disastrous explosion on board. Since his retirement, Basile has been deeply
involved in a special all-Canadian millennium project called The Canada
Tree, a magnificent tree sculpture composed of woods from each province
and territory telling fascinating stories of ordinary and extraordinary
Canadians. A towering symbol, The Canada Tree celebrates the extended roots
of the fascinating Canadian experience. [Photo, courtesy Basile Papaevangelou]
