Shiv Lal Jindal was born
in the village of Dhanaula, in that part of northwest India called Punjab.
Prior to university, Shiv was educated in Nabha, then completed his undergraduate
work at Government College, Ludhiana, 1952-54, and received his Medical
Degree, Punjab University, Chandigarh, 1959. Interning, Rajendra Hospital,
Patiala, Punjab, 1960-61, Dr. Jindal’s initial residency was at Royal Victoria
Hospital, Belfast, N. Ireland, 1961-64. Dr. Jindal was also resident, Springfield
Hospital, Springfield, Massachusetts, before becoming Permanent Resident,
and Fellow, Ottawa Civic Hospital, 1967. Since 1969, Dr. Shiv Jindal has
become a much respected Nephrologist, Ottawa Civic Hospital, and has served
on the teaching staff, University of Ottawa, where since 1973 he has been
Director, Kidney Transplant Program. As Acting Head, Division of Nephrology,
Ottawa Civic Hospital, since 1995, Dr. Jindal’s interests in Renal and
Heart Transplant have brought much positive recognition to the Ottawa Civic
Hospital, to Ottawa University where he teaches, and to himself. A member,
past and present, of many influential committees associated with organ
transplanting, Dr. Jindal, married to Sarita, his wife of nearly 40 years,
the father of three children, all embarked on professional careers, still
has found time to be active in Canada’s influential Indo-Canadian Community.
Founding member, Indo-Canadian Community Centre, 1971, and the Hindu Temple of
Ottawa-Carleton Inc., Dr. Jindal has been the President of the Hindu Temple
ofOttawa-Carleton since 1984. A Fellow, Royal College of Physicians, Canada,
and the American College of Physicians, Dr. Jindal’s decision to make Canada
his new homeland, 1967, is a clear indication that transculturalism will
