Hindu Temple Reinforces Ottawa’s Diversity
The concept to build the Hindu Temple of Ottawa-Carleton was developed at a meeting of the community held on February 29, 1984. Regular religious activities commenced, September 1986, after the first phase of construction. The nine inner Temples to house the Deities were built during the second phase and completed in October 1989. Three Shikharas (domes) adorn the top of this Hindu Temple. There are two resident priests to serve the needs of the community. During the Festival of Light (Deepavali), the Temple may hold a thousand people. All funds for the Temple have been raised through generous donations by the people of the district and the surrounding areas. [Photo, courtesy Mohan Mahidhara, photographer, Sadhana Nagnur]
