Hyung-sun Paik began playing the violin, age six. Born, Seoul, Korea, after graduating from Ewha Girls’ High School, she furthered her studies in violin under the guidancea nd tutelage of Professor Eudice Shapiro, University of Southern California, 1971. Before graduating magna cum laude, U.S.C., Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, 1975, Hyung-sun performed solo with U.S.C. Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduation, she returned to Korea to play Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with Seoul National Symphony Orchestra. The next year, 1976, she studied violin with the world-renowned musician/teacher, Josef Gingold, Professor of Violin, Indiana University. Upon graduating with a Master’s Degree in Music, with Distinction, Indiana University, 1979, she performed Sibelius Violin Concerto, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul. During the 1979-80 season, she played first violin with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, then moved permanently to Toronto, Ontario, with Thomas Min, her Korean-born husband, who, upon receiving his Ph.D., Nuclear Engineering, UCLA, gained employment with Atomic Energy of Canada. Hyung-sun, since 1980, has played first violin with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and has played many musical recitals, both solo and chamber, in many cities in the United States, Korea, and Canada.
