Surgeon Specialist
Born in Riga, Latvia, Arnis
Freiberg lived in a displaced persons’ camp in Mannheim, Germany, between
1944 and 1948. The family, unable to return to Latvia as the result of
Communist occupation there, immigrated to Canada in 1948. Receiving his
M.D. from the University of Toronto, 1961, Dr. Freiberg completed his residency
in Plastic Surgery in 1967. Specializing in hand surgery, Dr. Freiberg
has been a lecturer in the Dept. of Surgery at the University of Toronto
since 1967 and full professor of Plastic Surgery since 1993. He has been
clinically affiliated with a number of hospitals including Toronto’s East
General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, and the Toronto Hospital.
Winner of numerous medical awards, Dr. Arnis Freiberg, in this view, stands
with Biruta, his Latvian-born wife of 42 years. Dr. Freiberg has a Fellowship
in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, 1967 (Plastic Surgery).
