Both
sets of Lillian Petroff’s grandparents were born in Macedonia before they
immigrated to Canada, the males immigrating prior to the outbreak of World
War I and the females arriving shortly after Armistice in a state of combined
fear and happiness as hand-picked brides. Graduating from the University
of Toronto with a Ph.D. in History, Lillian works today as Co-ordinator
of Educational Programs for the Multicultural History Society of Ontario,
a non-profit organization located on the campus of St. Michael’s College,
University of Toronto. In this view, Lillian is seen with Robert Fulford,
well-known Canadian journalist and columnist, after winning an Award of
Merit, 1996, for her publication: Sojourners and Settlers: the Macedonian
Community in Toronto to 1940. [Photo, courtesy Lillian Petroff]
