As a young man, Larry Attard immigrated to Canada in 1973 from B’Kara, Malta, and immediately took up horse racing. One of North America’s leading jockeys until a tragic fall at Woodbine Racetrack in 1997 prevented him from ever riding again, Larry won the Queen’s Plate in 1983 aboard Bompago. He also won two Prince of Wales trophies, one in 1992 aboard Benburb of Knob Hill Farms Stables and the other, as viewed here, aboard Kiridashi, in 1995, from Minshall Farms.
