Dr. Rey D. Pagtakhan, M.P. (Lib., Winnipeg North-St. Paul), was raised in Bacoor, Cavite, and graduated in Medicine from the University of the Philippines. A Professor of Pediatrics, medical author, community volunteer, and now a parliamentarian, he has received several awards in the Philippines, U.S.A. and Canada. He immigrated to Canada in 1968 and was first elected to the House of Commons 20 years later. Formerly the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, he is currently Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.
