Entertaining
with Elegance and Ease
Nikola Manojlovich’s mother,
born, Silbas, Serbia, came to Canada with her parents via the Orient Express
and a Cunard Liner, landing, Pier 21, Halifax, before journeying onwards
as a landed immigrant to Windsor, Ontario, 1938. Nik’s father, also an
ethnic Serb, was waiting in a displaced persons camp, West Germany, before
being given papers, 1949, to immigrate to Canada. Because of the large
Serbian community in Windsor, Nik’s father settled in this southwestern
Ontario city where he would meet his future wife, and together producing
a son, Nikola, 1963. Nik was keenly involved in the Serbian community during
his formative years. An active member of Windsor’s Serbian choir and folkloric
dance troupe, he also participated each Sunday as an altar boy at the Serbian
Eastern Orthodox Church Gracania. After graduating, University of Western
Ontario, Nik ventured into the hospitality industry, 1983, working as Catering
Manager and Director of Banqueting and Convention Operations, Sheraton
Hotels, Toronto. By 1995, Nik with a partner opened a company specializing
in social and corporate event planning and continues to establish a niche
in this service industry. Nik is also the host, writer, and co-creator
of HGTV’s “Savoire Faire”, a successful series of programs, now three seasons
long, leading viewers through the ageless art of entertaining with elegance
and ease. “Savoire Faire” is a runaway TV hit show which is now shown in
homes of 32 million American viewers. A fourth season promises to garnish
a greater audience in that the show is syndicated and shown in Hong Kong
and Singapore. In his spare time, moreover, Nik still finds time to conduct
the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Choir in Toronto. [Photo, courtesy Nik Manojlovich]
