The
Pandam-paaliya is one of many masks of the Sinhalese Tovil (dance group)
repertoire of Sri Lanka. Distinct from religious ceremonies, Tovil is performed,
to much psychotherapeutic effect, in a home setting when a family or community
member falls seriously ill, or when a woman is approaching childbirth.
