Born
in Lindesberg, Sweden, Eva Svensson took her early violin training with
the legendary John Fernström and later with Gert Crafoord, formerly
Concert Master with the Stockholm Philharmonic. Before immigrating to Canada,
Eva Svensson had studied violin in Salzburg, Austria. Offered a full scholarship
to Boston University, 1963, upon graduating both under-graduate and graduate
in Violin Performance, and working with such notable musicians as cellist
Aldo Parisot, Eva took her first professional job with the Montreal Symphony,
1969, and has been, ever since, a member of that internationally respected
musical body. Since arriving in Canada, Eva has been active in the Montreal
music community, performing as soloist for both radio and television, serving
as a member of various orchestras, including L'orchestre Symphonique de
Radio-Canada, the McGill Chamber Orchestra as well as the Montreal Symphony.
Sitting on numerous juries, teaching at the Faculty of Music, McGill University,
recording over 85 solos for London Decca, Vox, and EMI labels, Eva Svensson’s
musical career is reinforced by her husband who, as a violinist, is Professor
of Violin, McGill University, and her two children, Erik, a cellist and
Karl, a percussionist. [Photo, courtesy Eva Svensson]
