Descendents of Michel de Verteuil in Canada
During the 14th century, one quarter of the French town of Bordeaux, France, was owned by la famille de Verteuil. A Royalist surname during the seige of Fortress Louisbourg as well as the French Revolution, a descendent, Michel de Verteuil (1773-1865), arrived in Trinidad in 1796 and became a plantation owner and Commandant of his Quarter. Five generations and over 170 years later, four de Verteuil brothers, descendents of Michel, all immigrated to Canada to continue their education and to make Canada their home.
