Halit Anginer, born, Manisa, Turkey, 1944, earned both his B.A. and M.S. (1969) degrees from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, then took on a number of professional positions in his homeland including a position with the Turkish government, before immigrating to Canada, 1992. Settling in Toronto, Halit and his family established a business selling apparel and unisex clothing in downtown Toronto’s fashion strip near Bloor and Yonge Streets. Married to the girl he met at university, Halit, together with Gönül, has raised three children, each of whom helps in building the family business which now includes three retail outlets. Dr. Aydin and Mrs. Tülin Yurtçu were both born in the Republic of Turkey. When they immigrated to Canada, they settled in Montreal where they have lived since 1961. Tülin, a seamstress and a graduate of Ankara Institute of Art, has worked, in Canada, in various fashion stores, as a couturière. Dr. Yurtçu, today, is a retired psychiatrist who graduated from the Medical Faculty, Ankara University. He received his psychiatric residency training as a staff psychiatrist and clinical director in both rural and urban hospitals, until his recent retirement. Both Dr. and Mrs. Yurtçu have been directly involved in various community activities with fellow Turkish Canadians. Both have served as President, Turkish Cultural Association of Canada, which was founded in Montreal, 1963. They are also co-founders of the Turquebec Cultural and Friendship Association since its inception, 1993. They continue to promote a better knowledge and understanding of their native country through cultural exhibitions, conferences, media coverage, TV appearances, and debates. Ambassadors of goodwill, the Yurtçu family focuses on the significance of multi-ethnic diversity, mutual tolerance, harmony, and reconciliation among peoples who make up Canada.
