After 100 Years – Still Remembering...
Todor and Vasylena Pawluk immigrated to Canada from Zadubrivka (Chernivtsi), Ukraine, 1899. The fourth generation descendants of these pioneering Ukrainian settlers gathered together, 1999, at the Shandro Church Cemetery, Alberta, to celebrate the centennial of their grandparents’ long journey to Canada at a time when Alberta was a provisional district of the Northwest Territories. Canada’s Spiritual Landmarks
Ukrainian Churches are easy to identify when driving through various Canadian municipalities or passing through cities and towns of Canada’s prairie provinces. Two examples of Ukrainian church architecture in Canada, are, above, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Vegreville, Alberta, now in the Ukrainian Heritage Cultural Village east of Edmonton, typical of hundreds of Ukrainian churches across Canada, and, right, St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, Edmonton, Alberta.
