In 1972, Associated Press
photographer Nick Uttook this Pulitzer Prize winning photograph portraying
the trauma of a nine-year-old Vietnamese girl whose body had just been
seared by a napalm aerial attack on her village, 30 miles northwest of
Saigon. Now living in Canada, since 1991, Kim Phuc raises funds through
the Kim Foundation for children victimized by war. UNESCO also keeps Kim
busy as a global goodwill ambassador. To commemorate the 50th anniversary
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations recently
awarded Kim Phuc a gold medal, as viewed here, for her dedication to promoting
the culture of peace and non-violence. [Photo, above, courtesy AP Photo/Nick
